Season and sub-seasons allow you to compartmentalize your organization management from season to season and year to year.
They allow you to start with fresh registration entries, roster, and schedule with each new season; separating the old data from the new.
Creating Your First Season in SportsEngine
What's the difference between a season and a sub-season?
Most organizations just use the year for the Season and the part of the season for the Sub-season. Sub-seasons allow you to have multiple compartments within a season, such as pre-season, regular season and post-season, but share the same roster.
Creating a New Season or Sub-Season
After the first season or sub-season passes, you will need to create each subsequent new season or sub-season from the League Page (leagues) or the Club Page (clubs). It is a nearly identical process for Leagues and Clubs.
Create a New Season from a League Page or Club Page:
Step 1: Log in and navigate to the League Page or Club Page on your site
Step 2: Toggle on Edit Mode
Step 3: Select Admin from the menu located under the page title
Step 4: Select Season from the dropdown menu
Step 6: Add a Season Name. Usually the year of the season
Step 7: Set the Subseason Name. Usually a part of the season such as 'Regular Season'
Data Source (Leagues Only)
The Data Source setting is very important for leagues! Data source determines whether your new season will have the same teams, divisions, staff page permissions, tool settings, rosters, and page content as the previous season or not.
Start From Scratch: If you are a league and you select Start from Scratch you will need to manually add divisions and teams to the new season. League and Club Pages will lose old content.
Copy Sub-Season (Recommended): This option allows you to copy divisions and teams from the past season with the options to copy staff page permissions, tool settings, rosters, and page content in addition.
Step 9: Click Create Season
Step 10: Activate the season as the Current Sub-season
A season will not appear for members on the mobile app or website until it is selected as the Current Subseason. A team can only have one current sub-season at a time; however, you can build out a future subseason while your current season is active.
Show Shared Schedule: Show games and events published to your team from other sites in this season
Generate Game ID's: Game IDs help you label games to reference them later. You can autogenerate game IDs or manually create them.
Enable Game Type: Allows you to add a game type to games within the season (ex. exhibition match)
Enable Group Name: Allows you to add a group name to games within the season (ex. group A)
Create a New Season From League (The Old Way)
For longtime SportsEngine League users, you are still able to create new seasons from League within the Sport Management tab of SportsEngine HQ as an alternate method of creating seasons. Here's how:
Step 2: Click on Competition, then select Sport Management.
Step 3: Go to the Seasons subtab.
Step 4: Click the Add Season Icon.
Step 5: Add a Season Name. Usually the year of the season
Step 6: Set the Subseason Name. Usually a part of the season such as 'Regular Season'.
Step 7: Choose Data Source. Select past sub-season to copy and copy options.
Step 8: Click Create Season.
